Privacy Policy
Effective 16 October 2026
Preset Pilot (presetpilot.com) turns a description of a guitar tone into a working Line 6 Helix preset, and lets you edit and back up your Helix from the browser. It is run by Quilter Laboratories, LLC of Irvine, California, USA (“we”, “us”).
This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who else handles it, how we protect it, how long we keep it, and how you delete it. It covers the website, the Preset Pilot account, and the Preset Pilot Helper app for Windows.
1. Google account data we access
You sign in to Preset Pilot with your Google account. We ask Google only for basic sign-in permissions — the openid, email and profile scopes. From Google we receive and store:
- your name,
- your email address,
- the link to your Google profile picture, and
- your Google account ID (a number that identifies your account to us).
Google also tells us whether your email address is verified; we check it when you sign in and do not store it. We never see your Google password, and Preset Pilot has no access to your Gmail, Google Drive, contacts, calendar, YouTube or any other Google data.
2. How we use Google account data
We use the Google account data above only to provide Preset Pilot to you:
- to create your Preset Pilot account and sign you in;
- to show your name and picture in the app, so you can see which account you are using;
- to connect a beta invite to the account it created;
- to reply to you when you write to us through the contact form;
- to keep the service secure — for example ending every session when you choose “sign out everywhere”, and enforcing daily usage limits.
We do not use Google account data for advertising, retargeting or personalised ads; we do not sell it or give it to data brokers or information resellers; we do not use it to decide creditworthiness or for lending; and we do not use it to train artificial-intelligence or machine-learning models. We do not send marketing email.
3. How we share Google account data
We do not sell, rent or trade Google account data, and we do not share, transfer or disclose it to anyone, except:
- Our hosting provider. Amazon Web Services stores and runs Preset Pilot on our behalf, under contract and only on our instructions. It does not use the data for its own purposes.
- When the law requires it, or when needed to protect the safety, rights or property of our users, the public or Quilter Laboratories.
- If Preset Pilot is sold or merged, the data would pass to the new owner under this policy, and we would tell you first.
Google account data is never sent to the AI service that builds presets (section 5).
4. Everything else we keep
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Tone descriptions you type, and the presets built from them | To build and show your presets, and to let you open, download and load them again. |
| Presets and whole-library backups you save from your Helix | Your cloud library and backups. A preset file identical byte-for-byte to one already stored (a factory preset, say) is stored once and shared. |
| Changes you make to generated presets (a knob moved, a model swapped) | To tune your own future presets. Counted as one anonymous vote per player, they also steer what the generator suggests for that style of music — never with your name or email attached. |
| Thumbs up or down on generated presets and AI edits, the reasons you tick and anything you write | To improve how the generator builds presets, and so a person can write back to you. Each rating keeps a copy of the description and the chain it rated, so it still makes sense if you later delete that preset; it goes when you delete your account. When we study ratings to tune the generator, they are used without your name or email. |
| Guitars you add (a name and pickup details) | To tailor presets to that guitar. |
| Bug reports and contact-form messages | To fix problems and answer you. A bug report includes a picture of the page you were on (you can remove it before sending) and any photos you add; photos are re-saved in your browser first, which removes camera details such as location. Contact messages include the email address you give; the sender’s IP address is kept only as a scrambled one-way code, to limit spam. |
| Invite links you open, and invites you email to yourself | So you can open an invite on your phone and sign up on your computer. When you open an invite link, we note it against a scrambled one-way code made from your network address, so another device on the same network can sign up with it; that note is deleted after 7 days. When you email an invite to yourself, we use the address only to send it, and keep scrambled one-way codes of it and of your network address for 7 days, to limit how often it can be sent. |
| Demo prompts, and the email address you give on the demo or the invite form | To deliver the preset and send you an invite. |
| Counts of generations and uploads per day | To enforce daily limits. |
| Server logs (IP address, page requested, time) | To run the service, find faults and stop abuse. |
5. Other services that process data for us
- Anthropic runs the Claude AI model that turns your tone description into a preset. It receives the description you type, the name and pickups of the guitar you chose, and the tone preferences learned from your edits — never your name, email address or other Google account data. Under Anthropic’s commercial terms it does not train its models on this data.
- Amazon Web Services hosts the site, database and files in the United States (us-west-1, Northern California).
- Google provides sign-in, and its Workspace mail service delivers contact-form messages to our inbox.
- Google Analytics counts visits to the site (section 8). It never receives your name, email address, account or Google account data.
6. How we protect data
- All traffic to presetpilot.com is encrypted with HTTPS.
- The database and application server accept connections only from inside our server; they are not reachable from the internet.
- Stored files and backups are encrypted at rest (AES-256) in Amazon S3.
- Passwords and keys for our services are kept in AWS Secrets Manager, not in code.
- Sign-in tokens are signed, expire after 7 days, and can all be ended at once with “sign out everywhere”.
- Access to user data is limited to the people at Quilter Laboratories who run Preset Pilot.
7. How long we keep data, and how to delete it
- We keep your account data, including your Google account data, for as long as you have an account.
- Delete your account at any time from your account page. That immediately removes your account, your Google account data, and your presets, cloud library, backups, edits, ratings, guitars, bug reports and contact messages. Database backups that still contain them expire within 14 days.
- Presets you delete sit in a recycle bin for 30 days and are then removed for good.
- Web-server logs are kept for 14 days, application logs for up to 30 days.
- Can’t sign in, or want us to delete your data for you? Ask through the contact form and we will do it.
- You can also remove Preset Pilot’s access to your Google account at myaccount.google.com/permissions. That stops future sign-ins; it does not delete what we hold, so delete your account here as well.
8. Your browser
We keep your sign-in token, editor preferences and, while you sign up, your invite code in your browser’s local storage. During Google sign-in we set one short-lived cookie (10 minutes) that protects the sign-in from forgery. There are no advertising cookies.
We use Google Analytics to see how many people visit, which pages they read and how they found us (for example, a link in a forum post). It records the pages you view, the site that sent you, your browser, device type and approximate location (country and city, worked out from your IP address, which Google Analytics does not store), and two events: that an account was created and that a preset was generated. It sets first-party cookies (_ga) so a return visit counts once. It never receives your name, email address, account or Google account data, and we have turned off Google signals and ad personalisation. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland get no analytics cookies. To opt out everywhere, use Google’s opt-out browser add-on.
9. The Preset Pilot Helper (Windows)
The optional Helper app talks to your Helix over USB on your own computer and accepts connections only from presetpilot.com in your browser. It sends nothing anywhere else. Presets it reads from your Helix reach our servers only when you save them to your cloud library or back up.
10. Your choices and rights
You can see and change your presets and library in the app, ask us for a copy of the data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or delete your account. Use the contact form for anything you can’t do in the app; we answer within 30 days. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, as those terms are defined in California law.
11. Children
Preset Pilot is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has an account, tell us through the contact form and we will delete it.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and for significant changes we will tell you in the app before they take effect.
